I first met Dylan in January 2007 after registering at our local Dogs Trust as a volunteer walker. At the time I wasn't able to have a dog at the time so this seemed the ideal solution. A week later Dylan, a large mongrel, entered my life & changed everything. 2 months later, after changing jobs, I took on my biggest challenge when Dylan moved in.
He was then 18 months old & had been in rescue kennels for 6 months. I had the perfect vision of how our life together would be, but oh! was I in for a shock!
He wasn't without his issues & our first couple of years together proved to be a very steep learning curve... & so my passion for dog training began!
Together we worked through many struggles. He was extremely dog reactive & it would appear that he hadn't been well socialised in general. As much as he loved to be around people he struggled in their company.
We both had a lot to learn. It wasn't always easy & we didn't always get it right. Many mistakes were made but we dusted ourselves off, forgave one another & tried again.
Against all the odds, our biggest achievements were completing the Kennel Club Good Citizen Scheme & spending a number of years working as part of a dog display team. This included strutting our stuff back at the Dogs Trust on their open day... proudest DogMum moment ever!!!
Despite all his troubles he was the most amazing dog. Time & time again he proved that even the most unruly, delinquent of dogs have lots to give & with love, time & patience can achieve so, so much.
Dylan always inspired me to learn more & ultimately to become a professional dog training instructor.
Over the years he had many nicknames but one was very special & summed him up.. hence Black Diamond Dog Training was born.
In September 2019 my heart was broken beyond repair when Dylan, at the grand old age of 14, departed this earth.
During his life he taught me so much & he continues to inspire me every single day.
He will always be the beating heart behind BDDT.... without him it wouldn't exist.
❤ Black Diamond ❤
"Less common than traditional diamonds... but much more valuable... The pitted surface means it fractures easily & is more difficult to cut & polish.
They defend against dark energies & protect from harm... they give courage to see inner truths & follow dreams.
Above all, they are amazingly intense, rare & precious"
